Packshot photography
Good quality packshot photography is like watching swans glide gracefully across a lake: a whole lot of activity needs to go on beneath the surface to produce the beautiful image we see from the bank. They are ideal for illustrating catalogues and online shopping carts.
Ironically, accurately reflecting what a product looks like in real life usually involves a variety of techniques designed specifically to force the camera to lie. The camera views products in two dimensions. We, of course, see shape and depth.
The best packshot photography therefore captures form and shadow, ensuring that colours are true to the original and that lettering is clearly legible. When photographing rounded or glass products (such as bottles) it includes sufficient light variation from left to right to indicate curvature. It makes embossed text or foil packaging look natural. In other words, the best packshot photography makes products look really normal.
For the avoidance of doubt, our definition of 'standard' packshot photography involves shooting a product against a plain background and then presenting it as a cut-out for use in catalogues and online shopping carts etc. Products that are grouped together, or presented alongside props etc come under the heading of creative packshot photography, while photographing them from all sides is called 360 degree spin photography. We offer all three options.
We shoot standard packshots from both our studios in London and Saffron Walden, Essex - just south of Cambridge - but are just as happy coming to you (location surcharge may apply). Our single product image price includes digital clean up, colour balance, cut-out and unlimited digital proofs.
